And the highlight of the celebrations was a formal adoption of An Chead Cathlan Coisithe by the city of Galway. The Mayor of Galway, Angela Lynch Lupton, welcomed by a 30-strong guard of honour under the watchful eye of 2/Lt Ultan O'Ceallaigh, led the proceedings on behalf of the city. And the formal adoption was recognised by the signing of a scroll by the mayor and the Officer Commanding An Chead Cath, Lt-Col Martin Coughlan. Some 500 people attended the ceremony, including all 11 liv ing former officers who have commanded An Chead Cath.
