Turloughmore advance in key decider
Turloughmore 0-13
Turloughmore qualified for the quarter finals of the county senior hurling champi onship by virtue of a three point winning margin over Abbeyknockmoy at Athenry on Tuesday evening last. Turlough were always in control and although Abbey rallied following a Damien Blade goal midway through the second half, they failed to bridge the gap and Turlough hung on for a well deserved win. Turloughmore took the early initiative and led by 0 - 5 to 0 - 2 after 16 minutes of the first half. Their scores came from Francis Forde with four points and Diarmuid Moore with one. Abbeyknockmoy had points from Michael Coleman and Pat Blade. However further points from Jimmy Burke, Darren O'Shaughnessy and an excellent point from Gary Hurney pushed Turloughmore into a com manding 0 - 10 to 0 - 4 half time lead. Abbey's other points came from Pat Blade pointed frees. The second half was noteworthy for the number of missed chances that befell both teams. Pat Blade had two early points for Abbeyknockmoy, but Turloughmore countered with points from Darren O'Shaughnessy and Gary Hurney. Then Abbey got the break they sought when Damien Blade hit a low shot to the net. This left three points between the sides with IS minutes left in the game. Significantly Abbeyknockmoy failed to build on this and the match ended with Jimmy Burke and Pat Blade trading point ed frees. The game itself, while well contested, was for the most part a scrappy affair. The first half was uninspiring and Salthill led at the break by 0 - 5 to 0 - 3. The match exploded into life one minute after the restart when former county minor star John Concannon blasted to the net for the north Galway side. However they failed to shake off a persistent Salthill challenge and the teams were tied on a number of occasions subsequent to that score. Salthill had some fine scores from Mark Butler, Tommy Mac Donald and Conor McGauran, who scored a superb last minute point from near the sideline. Milltown also had some fine scores with Eddie Forde pointing three great efforts in die second half. On Sunday evening Annaghdown and An Cheathru Rua also shared the spoils. The final score was Annaghdown 0 - 1 1 An Cheathru Rua 0 - 11. At half time the teams were tied on six points apiece. Michael N e w e l l was responsible for the bulk of Annaghdown

scores in the game, and he put in a man of the match performance throughout. Michael Melia and Hugh Mulrooney were also prominent in the scoring stakes. On the other hand An Cheathru Rua had points from all six forwards with Peadar O'Connghaile being their top scorer. As usual Sean Og De Paor was on the score sheet. Dunmore McHales had their second win in the championship when they accounted for Kilkerrin-Clonberne on the scoreline of 0 - 16 to 2 - 8. Kilkerrin-Clonbeme led by 1 - 5 to 0 6 at half time - the goal coming from a Brian Geraghty converted penalty. Dunmore upped their game and with Michael Donnellan in devastating form, Dunmore rattled over the points. Kilkerrin-Clonberne did have a second goal when Fintan Lyons crashed to the net
