SHAPE AND simplicity are the keynotes for autumn fashion, so opt for classic tailoring to achieve easy style, and elegance this season.
That is the m e s s a g e from internationally acclaimed designer Paul Costeiloe who w a s in Galway on Mondayforan exclusive showing o f his autumn/winter 1998 range a t the Design Platform a t the Station House Hotel, Clifden. The shop is the first regional outlet in the west to stock his designs. Grey is the number one colour for autumn and he expects its influence to predominate during next year's fall too. "It's the new black," he s a y s , " a n d , will b e seen in many forms, often teamed with black." Navy i s popular also. Exquisitely tailored trouser s u i t s and short sharp skirts ushered in his collection a n d portrayed a professional image while accentuating female curves. A grey short skirted t w e e d s u i t offered s t y l e a n d versatility, tness was a major t h e m e i n t e x t u r e , c o l o u r a n d styling w i t h I C o s t e l l o e combining lambswool a n d t w e e d to c r e a t e a soft fabric. Trouser suits, an invaluable a s s e t to a n y woman's wardrobe, were particularly evident. Slim cut w i t h long jackets, they projected an air o f confident femininity. The long jacket is a major newsmaker t h i s season b e i n g ^*hailed by Costeiloe as creating the most directional mood for a u t u m n '98. Tweed cropped up over and over again and offered fresh appeal when m i x e d with other fabrics. The designer's dressage collection created a stylishly casual look, ideal for weekend ^dressing. A long navy straight skirt and single breasted navy jacket cut a dash. The skirt, cut along clean lines, still managed to hug curves t o achieve this season's k desired silhouette. Suede, often in coolest c a m e l , emerged in short, sharp skirts and beautifully cut I t r o u s e r s . Combined with sweaters, especially i n the softest blues, they exuded
