Fast - Growing Galway attracts fast - growing salon serv
A new of Franchise Venture in Hair and Beauty has been launched in Galway. Until last week, No.l Addley p a r k was just another empty 2,000 sq ft unit occupying a corner site on a n industrial estate at the edge of Galway. Now its a hairdressers and beautician's d r e a m . Once Salon Services moved in and franchisee Mary Flood put up the compa ny sign above the door of the premises, word spread quickly and interest perked up dramatically. The opening on Sunday (August 17) with a celebration sale will be a manda tory attraction point for hundreds of professional hairdressers, beauty thera pists and college students who are expected to flock into Galway from miles around. Their curiosity will turn to astonishment when they see all that thismodern and well equipped hair and beauty cash and carry has to offer its cus tomers with the Salon Services expansion to Galway. Whatever a salon needs, can be found in the spacious, brightly-lit and well laid out premises of the self-service cash and carry. Under the one roof, there's everything from a hairgrip to a fully fitted professionally designed and equipped salon. It contains everyting from bulk five-litre containers of sham poo and conditioner, scissors, combs, clippers, tongs, dryers, electrolysis equipment, skincare treatments to a whole range of high-quality products, bearing brand names like AVEC, L'Oreal, Goldwell, TRESemme, Wella, Bounce, Schwarzkopf and Clynol. The beauty range features names like Nature's Way, Strictly Professional, Simply Beautiful Cosmetics, and Star Nails. A separate section of the building will be used to hold education and training seminars. By investing in a franchise with Salon Services, Irish-born Mary is joining a successful, vibrant company with nearly 30 year's experience of selling and distributing state-of-the-art professional hairdressing and beauty supplies with a fast-expanding network of outlets across Scotland, England and Ireland. In fact. Salon Services is now not only Ireland's leading wholesaler in its field of operation but also one of the leading forces in Europe. It was in July last year in Ireland that the company launched its first franchised outlet in Monaghan. Both Salon Services and Mary were impressed with the general look of Galway and the apparent healthy state and increasing activity in the local hair and beauty business. What finally clinched the decision to locate Mary's fran chise operation here was the discovery that Galway is enjoying economic growth unequalled anywhere else in Europe at present. "There's good market potential here and I am very confident about the prospects for running a successful franchise for Salon Service's in this area." says 40-year-old Mary who originally comes from the Laois area of the Republic but moved to live in London with her family at the age of seven. Mary's mother in law has a direct Galway connection. Mary decided to quit running her own small hair salon business in London's East End on health grounds to chase her dream of financial success. Says Mary: "I started focusing on something within the business that I knew. Franchising appealed to me after I read in Salon Services customer magazine. Salon Info, about Anne Keenan who runs the Monaghan outlet." Mary and her 43-year-old self employed heating engineer husband Tom and their two daughters Natasha (17) and Nicola (14) are all moving to Galway. Tom is keeping his business in London for the time being and plans to com mute between the two places. Describing the challenge ahead of her, Mary says: "It's going to be hard work, you have to put in the hours, but the rewards are there at the end. 1 like deal ing with people. It's a field I know, and I know the products because I used them." Mary adds; " Salon Services is opening up more and more new outlets all the time. It just gives you such a good feeling to know that you are part of a larg er organisation yet still your own boss." The Salon Services commitment to franchise like Mary includes total control of her own business, a nationally recognised name, the best operations sys tems in the business including a bespoke computer system monitoring sales figures, margins and stock inventory, professional support every step of the way, and an industry first customer loyalty card scheme. Earlier this year, the company gained the distinction of being chosen by the Franchise World mag azine for the 1996 Franchise Newcomer of the Year award. "Salon Services will be setting monthly sales targets for me Obviously, it is on a much larger scale than I've been used to. I will be guided by the Franchise Manager Colin Mitchell who is going to stay in Galway for the first two weeks of the store being in business to help get the show on the road".
