The prizes in the 1972 garden competitions will be presented in The Atlan ta Hotel, Dominick St., on Friday, November 3rd 1972 at 8.15 p.m. by the Mayor of Galway, Councillor Mic hael Higgins, and you are corially invited to be pres ent. Replicas will also be presented to the 1971 CupWinners. The thanks of The Com bined Residents' Associa tion go, in the first instance to the competitors, to Mr. Neil Whoriskey assisted by Miss Rose Flynn, who jud ged the entries and without whose expertise and unstin ting attention to each gar den inspected, these com petitions would lose much of their value; also to the donors of Cups and Prizes, particularly Guinness Group Sales (Ireland) Ltd., who have undertaken to Sponsor all the cash prizes for the third year in succ ession, and to Major Nor man N. Price, Barna Gar dens, who each year, very kindly presents an orna mental tree to the winner of Class D. The number of entries in each category and the highmarks awarded are shown on separate sheet, attached herewith. The total num ber of entries dropped from 145 in 1971 to 138 in 1972. This drop was prob ably due to the unfavour able early Summer weath er. Judges' Report In his report, the Adju dicator, Mr. Neil Whoris key stated that the stand ard of the competition was high, considering the ad verse weather during the early Summer, and those in the Prize winning category were exceptionally good. He would, however like to see a better effort made by those entering in Class G. --Garages and Filling Sta tions as the standard here could be improved. He referred to the spec ial mention he made last year of the wonderful work being done by Mrs. McHugh and the children of her neighbourhood on the Canal Bank; he wished to re-iterate his praise this season and also included for Special Mention in this regard the fine effort of Mrs. Anne Pratt, New Rd.
