TOP MANAGEMENT TEAM IN ALL OUT JOBS DRIVE
Two major promotions to attract industry to Galway are to be announced shortly by the newly established Galway Development Board.
Set up ten months ago the new Board feel they are ready to go public as they have secured substantial funding from the private sector. The Board consists of high profile achievers in the business and management world who will use their extensive connections to promote Galway as the ideal base for new companies. "It will be an all out drive," says Development Board chairman Raymond J. Rooney. "The unemployment figures are horrendous. There is no point in sitting down crying. We have to get up and do what we can. This is a small community where we depend on each other. Its past time when we took action." O ' B r i c , Academic and related industries by Prof. Pat Fotrell; Industry by Mr Sean Kinsella of Thermo King (Europe) Ltd. and John O'Shaughnessy of C R Bard Ltd., Business, Tourism and Investment by the remaining Directors Tom O'Connor, Mary Bennet and the chairman R.J. Rooney, Mr Roy Thompson will act as chief executive. Clearly the directors have a tremendous range of contacts throughout the world. It is hoped that the Board will build on these contacts and the expertise within the Board to promote investment and development. "The IDA are concerned with manufacturing where our brief will cover all services, tourism and every aspect of business. We will not specialise. If someone has a good idea we can introduce them straight to the agency that will help them. The County Enterprise Board, already a proven success, exists to process applications. We will actively persue contacts in the U S and Europe especially in Germany where we feel there is already considerable interest." The new Development Board is understood to have the blessing of the Government. It is unique in Ireland that the private sector should financially support such a jobs drive. If the venture is successful it could be the fore runner to similar undertakings by other committies.

N O CLASH
Mr. Rooney does not see any clash between the interests and methods of such agencies as the I D A and the County Enterprise Board.

These attributes will come as no surprise to regular visitors to the Galway office at 30 Eyre Square where Vincent Walsh and his team always serve an ace for service!
