T h e r e is nothing like changing y o u r hair col o u r t o brighten u p y o u r appearance, a d d character t o y o u r overall look a n d g i v e y o u a boost. Hair colour has become a fashion accessory. People use colour to give dull, natural hair a lift or add interest through streaks of two or more natural looking shades. If you are getting a few grey ribs then covering the grey can make you feel younger, or if you go for a complete change, the new look can make you feel like a different person. However, the hair colour you were born with is that which aligns with your complexion, so when you add colour to your hair take your skin tones into account. A drastic switch of colour may mean stepping outside your normal personality, so be prepared for the change. C O SN A C L U H O I G O O R If your skin tone is cool and muted your hair may well have been blonde as a child perhaps turning mousy later. Ash blonde colouring will enhance your hair and suit your skin tones, but the grey tone rather than the golden tone is to be preferred. Warm honey and red tones will look ageing on you. If your skin tone is cool and clear your hair will probably be brown or black and may well turn a stunning grey prematurely. If you prefer to cover salt and pepper hair, choose ash brown tones, but steer clear of warm browns which mean a reddish tint. If your skin tone is warm and muted you pro bably have blonde or brown hair with natural red tints. Golden hair tones, auburn, red, and warm brown tones will enhance your skin, whereas ash tones will make you look pale and uninteresting. Your natural hair colouring may be golden blonde "r brown if your skin tone is warm and clear. All warm colours will make you look good, from flaxen blonde to golden brown and through to copper hues. Once you have decided to enhance your hair col our, you must decide whether you want a tem porary change, a semi permanent change or a per manent change, and whether you want to intensify the shade by adding colour or make it paler by removing it. Either way, all of your hair need not be coloured at once, sections can be singled out or highlighted to give a variance of colour. WAYS TO L O S I O K LM F C F C S A E A T * Don't try to squeeze yourself into smaller sizes. * Be prepared to pay a little more for clothes that don't skimp on cut. * If you are pear shaped, keep darker colours for the lower half of your body. * Stripes and stitched pleats are flattering for fuller figures - but make sure you steer clear of horizontal stripes. * Avoid very short hair or scraped back pony tails. Choose a soft framing style. * A slumped posture can add pounds, so hold your head up. keep your back straight and tummy in. It is a good morale booster too and lifts the spirits of the down hearted. Together with stylish clothes, a flattering hairstyle and a healthy skin, make-up contributes the final polish by adding to a sense of self-worth. If you have been using the same make-up for years then it is high time to experiment with new shades. Visit a beauty therapist and learn new ways to apply make-up. You will be amazed at the results. Experiment with different foundations at home. You can mix two together to get the perfect match. Choose a foundation that suits your skin type. Medicated foundations are fine for spot-prone skin, anti-shine, water based matt foundations are best for greasy skins. Liquids in bottles and tubes suit most skin types and give light coverage. If you have always worn blue eye-shadow, perhaps you should move on to newer colours. Eye shadow should set off the shape and colour of your eyes, not your dress, so choose warm or cool colours according to your skin tone. Don't pick a shade that matches your eye colour exactly. The iris is generally composed of several col ours, so if you have flecks of gold, brown, grey or green, these shades will look good automatically. Pale colours are useful highlighters. Matt or gloss, they " open" out an area and are used on the browbone beneath the eyebrow. A dot of pale shadow just above the lashes at the centre of your eyelids also widens eyes. LP TC I S I K Lipstick remains a symbol of femininity and adds colour to your face quickly. Lip colours must complement your natural skin tones, fair hair and fair skins suit the paler, warm pinks, peaches and coral colours while darker looks are suited to the deeper terracottas and flame reds. Keep the lips in good condition by smoothing on a little Vaseline at night. It also makes an inex pensive lip gloss. The fastest way to apply lipstick is to use a lip pencil. This will outline and fill in all at once. Use a wand gloss applicator for speedy shine. Don't apply too much colour. It accentuates the cracks. Bright mouth colours draw attention to your teeth. Be sure they look good. Natural colours look good by day but try some shimmer at night. A gold or silver highlighter in the centre of a bottom lip can look sensational.

If you change your hairstyle or your hair colour reassess your make-up.
