* Keep summer foundations light. Use tinted moisturisers to give colour, rather than heavy foundations that can run and crease in the heat. Tinted creams give a natural sun kissed look. * Make your bright eyes shimmer. Don't go overboard with eye make-up as the hot weather can make the colours run and streak. Soft pastel shades with a slight shimmer really flatter a tan. Choose pearly shades of pink or peach that catch the light. If you use powdered shadows, try us ing an eye-fix primer for longer lasting good looks. * Wear shades. Sunglasses not only protect eyes and prevent wrinkles but they help you look dark and mysterious. * Take care of your lips. Prevent lips drying and cracking by keeping them well moisturis ed. Use a sun-screen preparation to protect lips from harmful UV ravs.

It's Galway Races time. So get your glad rags on and get ready to enjoy yourself. "What will I wear?" you moan. Last year's outfits look jaded and tatty and your bank balance is looking even worse. There is still time to get to the shops and seek out some of summer's latest sensations. Many come at bargain prices and combined with eye catching accessories will look wonderful. There's news in clothes with easy style for day, and all glittered up for evening. Summer colours in tints of ice-cream or sugared almonds, shapes easy enough to be comfortable on the hottest day and soft hugg ing fabrics like cotton, crepe dc chine or viscose all make ideal choices. Culottes still continue to be undisputed fashion favourites. Long, almost to the ankles, and almost as wide as elephant flares, or just below the knee, like a divided skirt, they com bine style with wearability.

Suits cater for most lifestyles and occasions. They boast a timeless elegance and plain or tailored, they will take you to the Races and back with maximum effect. The classic suit with the strong new emphasis on the shorter knee length epitomises the chic French look. This season's cocktail wear in taffetas and crepe is mellow, genteel and unaggressive. Some styles are quietly daring with lean, figure hug ging skirts. The more flamboyant in bold, dazzl ing colours shout loudly and cheerfully that life is frivolous and fun. The velvet story has been written so many times and yet the true elegance and allure of velvet is undeniable. The little black dress in velvet or wool, gives a provocative edge to day or nightime dressing. Ethnic and Indian looks in spicy prints in burnt orange, gold and browns are also popular.
