Over the years, devotion to the oyster has led these illustrious people and others to the village of C l a r e n b r i d g e to p a r ticipate in its annual Oyster Festival. When the Clarenbridge Oyster Festival was held first in 1954,- few people could ever have guessed how successful it would become. Over 40 years later it con tinues to cater for both locals and visitors, and attracts thousands of people to the village every September. Last year one of Britain's best known food experts, Keith Floyd was the celebrity guest and had a great time. He socialised. chatted to fans, posed for photographs and enjoyed the food and Murphy's Stout. In fact he enjoyed himself so much, he has decided to return for this year's event. Every year the Festival Committee aims to maintain the highest standards of entertainment and fun, and this year is no exception. These include fish cookery demonstrations, environment walks, a photography exhibition, golf outings, coffee morn ings, oyster opening com petitions for men and women, fancy dress, a gala sail into the Weir, and of course plenty of oysters and Murphy's stout. Willie Moran feels its suc cess is due to the high quali ty of service and entertain ment offered to patrons each year. Enquiries and bookings have been high according to the Festival organisers who expect the 1.000 all in clusive weekend tickets to be sold early this year.
