Club Rapparee in Dominick St is proof that the social scene in Galway continues to grow and improve.
Club R a p p a r e e which opened a month ago caters for people, young and old, who a r e i n t e r e s t e d in traditional music, enter tainment, culture and good wholesome food. It is s i t u a t e d on t h e cor ner of Dominick St a n d R a v e n ' s T e r r a c e in what w a s formerly Monroes. A c c o r d i n g t o n e w coowner, Brendan Smith, on ly t h e a d d r e s s is similar. T h e building h a s been entirely redecorated using local labour and craftspeo ple. Wood a n d stone a r e strongly emphasised, and although the pub is large it h a s been skilfully design e d for w a r m t h a n d intimacy. The n a m e comes from Irish history a n d 18th a n d 19th century clanspeople who w e r e evicted during the Plantation. They went underground, and developed a kind of Robin Hood i m a g e . They were known a s Rapparee. Club Rapparee will have its very own 18th Century Resident, a model, dress ed in costume who will

Musical Culture
Different m u s i c is p l a y e d on p a r t i c u l a r nights, for instance Tues day night is ceili night. Ten y e a r s ago, a s a student, he established t h e College Bar in U.C.G., a n d for a time he w a s also Head B a r m a n in the Burlington.
