1990 attended. I seem to have begun the column with food. Well I could not leave down my pen without complimenting Sean Loughnane who provided exceptionally good food for the reception. Sean received compliments from the visitors which was praise indeed. He has an excellent meat shop in' Dominick Street. Happy Holidays, Willie Fahy

CASTLES IN T H E A I R
Castles are still in the news this week following the opening of Ballindooley Castle. I also enjoyed the splendid musical opening of Gregg Castle near Corrandulla. This 17th century castle is owned by Martin and Peg Murray of Salthill, but their daughter Ann Marie and her husband Pat Broderick have turned it into a wonderful residential Irish Music Centre. It is going to be a great success with visitors. It is beautifully situated with animals about the place and of course the glorious sound of Irish music. The Loughrea Pipers were blazing away and Pat himself is a talented piper. R.T.E.'s attractive Maraid Ni Neactain was on hand to record the occasion, delicious food from Lydon House and a general welcome by local people for this outstanding ameniety in their area. I spoke to The Hosty, Gannons and Fahy families who were pleased with their new neighbours. Leanne, Donna and Anita from Minneapolis. Gene Kirkpatrick from Gainsville, Georgea and Larry and Kellie Levy from Ft. Wayne, Indiana. I was delighted with Jim Niessner's news He spent some time in Dublin, specifically to research his grandmothers family and did so successfully. Luann Grogan Harris from Columbia, Maryland with husband Thomas are also on the trail of their family history and Margaret Guispie Felpert of Ellicolt City, Maryland was also happy with her family research.

with Bobby and Phyllis Molloy and Richard received medals from Mrs. Beck. She had previously welcomed the Molloys to Texas last St. Patrick's Day. Also at the very happy reception were Joe and Betsy Kopel, Mrs. Agnes Starr. Ted and Mae Kelly and Joan Moody of San Antonio, Aid. Bridie O'Flaherty and Councillors Liz Hackett and Martin Connolly also

Harp and Shamrock Society
Marie and Richard Quinn of Dominick Street presented Mrs. Eleanor Beck, President of the Harp and Shamrock Society from Texas with a beautiful gift. He carved the Claddagh Ring symbol on a piece of polished oak and the presentation was made at Quinns lovely jewellery shop. It was quite an occasion. Mayor Angela Lupton welcomed the society to Galway. The Mayor together

The next Castle I was at was Dunguaire at Kinvara which is quite honestly a beautiful place. Even for a day trip you can enjoy superb views of Kinvara village and the Burren and day dream on the shore for a little while. But I enjoyed myself even further as last week I was a guest with 47 mid-west Americans at the Banquet. Afterwards I congratulated the general manager (of Shannon Banquets) Willie Maloney on an excellent evening. The staff and entertainers are first class. Harpist Aileen Anderson was in great form and she was ably assisted by the talents of Valarie O'Connell, Tara Ryan and Adrian MurJaney who presented historical poems, plays and songs to the delight of the visitors. I shared the evening with the Welch sisters,
