Rugby Union Goes Back to Clubs On New All-Ireland League
The I.R.F.U. i s asking all Ireland's senior club to decide between a t w o or five division national l e a g u e after a call from the Connacht branch to extend the n e w championship. However it is unlikely a n y c h a n g e will be implemented for the start of next season, e v e n if the clubs a r e in favour.
The I.R.F.U. decision follows a call from Connacht rugby bosses to take all steps to extend the league for the start of the 1991 season. At its meeting last Fri day, the I.R.F.U. commit tee agreed to write to all 49 senior clubs to seek their opinion on a two or five division league before they meet again in Dublin on March 30. According to Connacht I.R.F.U. Committee representative, Mr Don Crowley, the two division league still stands. However, he says, the response could ensure a change "either this Oc tober or the following season." I.R.F.U. secretary, Mr Paddy Moss, says it could result in bringing forward the proposed three-year review.

The decision means the I.R.F.U. is now returning to the clubs, which in 1983 voted against the five divi sion league. Twenty-three clubs voted against, 23 in favour, and two abstained.
