BY JULIE TIERNEY A new handheld audio guide will save tourists time and money and serve as a souvenir of Galway city. The credit card sized guide, which was launched in Galway City Museum on Tuesday, is a selfplayer with built-in speaker and comes with a map, information card, and a wrist strap. It offers a 20 minute eight-track audio tour to the city and surrounding attractions. The audio guide also provides key information on heritage sites and places of interest to visit. The player is chaptered so the user can replay any track in its entirety or in part. The tracks link with the map and information card. Six thousand of the English language guides will be launched for sale in the coming months with additional language versions planned for future sessions. The target retail price will be similar to a CD (18 to 19) and includes a coupon package which will offset the cost. The coupons relate to attractions referenced on the player, as well as restaurants and leisure activities in Galway and offer the tourist reductions on entry, meals, etc. The player with merchandising support package is designed for sale at tourist outlets and in particular at reception/concierge points in hotels.
