Galway man organises charity climb of Croagh Patrick
A group of young managers working in the tourism industry in Galway will climb Croagh Patrick this summer to raise funds for three charities. The endeavour, the brainchild of project manager Tom O'Dwyer, has been organised as part of Skal Ireland's participation in World Skal Day. Skal international is a professional organisation of tourism leaders around the world which works to promote global tourism and friendship. Its members meet at local, national, regional, and international levels to discuss and pursue topics of common interest. The organisation has 25,000 members in some 525 clubs in 80 countries. Skal hopes to have a team from every county in Ireland climbing the Reek together to raise funds for suicide bereavement support group Console, Alan Kerins' African Projects, and Skal Ireland charities. The climb is organised by Mr O'Dwyer and Skal and is open to everyone. "This is a novel and very worthwhile cause and I and my colleagues in Skal Galway are lending our full support to Tom who is an excellent ambassador for Skal," said Mary Bennett, Skal International member and the organisation's first woman president. The climb will take place on May 16, and will conclude with climbers and friends gathering in Westport for music and refreshments.
