Simulated rescue on Lough Corrib this weekend
BY UNA SINNOTT Visitors to Lough Corrib this Saturday needn't be unduly worried if they spot a rescue operation under way. A simulated rescue will take place on the lake as part of the ongoing training carried out by Corrib Mask Search and Rescue. According to national water safety body Irish Water Safety, Saturday will see the tourist ferry Lady Ardilaun, licensed to carry 100 passengers, evacuated after getting into trouble on Lough Corrib. The tourists in this case will be members of other rescue organisations, including mountain rescue and Coast Guard volunteers. The Coast Guard helicopter will also attend the exercise. Corrib Mask Search and Rescue have now become a resource to the Coast Guard having trained for over two years to reach the high standard required. As part of the Clonbur Branch of The Irish Red Cross, their resources include an ambulance, landrover, two rescue boats and a qualified search and rescue dog. People taking part in the exercise will assemble in the Ashford Castle car park at 10.30am
