Habitat to open in Fairgreen next week
BY MARY O'CONNOR Habitat Ireland, a world leader in contemporary home design, will open a new store on Fairgreen Road next week. This will be the franchise's third store in Ireland - the others are in Dublin and Belfast - and marks a continuation in the 40-year-old company's expansion plans. Galway is a vibrant city with distinct attractions, says Malcolm Brighton who holds the franchise rights for Habitat in the republic and Northern Ireland. "Galway and Belfast were both important locations for us as we looked to expand our business. Each city has a distinct attraction - Galway is a vibrant, exciting and growing city." The new 11,000 square feet store will provide nine new jobs for the area. The architectural work was carried out by Irish firm Douglas Wallace and promises to be a new concept in interior retailing in the west. Terence Conran set up Habitat's first store in 1964 on London's Fulham Road.
When Bob Parsonson (above centre) first stumbled upon The Black Magic Big Band little did he know that he would end up managing them for eight years. Having just emigrated from England he couldn't believe that such a band existed in the west of Ireland. Last Monday the members of the band, along with Paul Grealish, presented Bob, who is leaving for New Zealand, with a piece of engraved crystal and a framed disc of the band's CD This Could Be The Start in appreciation of the service he has given. Pictured above at Monday night's presentation were (from left) Paul Grealish, Bob Parsonson and Mo People of all ages will unite. Street. Photo: Mike Shaughnessy They will travel for miles with

the determination and the desire to reclaim a world record, whilst raising a lot of money for charity.
