Gala Christmas Judge adjourns cabaret to assault case to await boost Croi victim's medical report
Jazz, traditional, modern, and classical music. There is something to cater for all music tastes this year at the annual Gala Christmas Cabaret in aid of Croi, which will be held in the Inis Mor Ballroom in the Radisson SAS Hotel on Friday December 5 at 8pm. The Con Tempo String Quartet, Frankie Gavin, the Guinness Jazz Band, Marc Roberts of Eurovision fame, Sean Costello, Frank Naughton, and organist Mark Keane are just some of the acts lined up for the night. The show is produced by Mary A Cunningham, a business lecturer in GMIT who recently received an AIB/REHAB Millennium Person of the Year award for her various fundraising efforts. Tickets are 20 and are available from Zhivago Records on Shop Street and from Mary A Cunningham at (091) 742437. Judge Geoff Browne adjourned a case involving a serious assault to await a medical report on the injured party before deciding whether or not he will accept jurisdiction and deal with the case in the District Court. Andrew Keady, 45 Pearse Avenue, Mervue, pleaded guilty at Galway District Court to assaulting a man at a garage on the Tuam Road, Galway, on March 10 last, causing him harm. Inspector Tony O'Donnell said the injured man was locking a car when he was hit from behind on the head. He turned around and saw the accused who again hit him a number of times on the head. He received a cut to his head and there was blood streaming down his face as a result of the blows. Inspector Tony O'Donnell said the injuries were not terribly severe but he did not have a medical report in court to substantiate this. Judge Geoff Browne said he would decide on whether or not he would accept jurisdiction in the case after reading a medical report and he adjourned the case to January 19 to await such a report.
