NW O THE WEST'S GREATEST DANCING VENUE
There ye are again
Well do ye know what, but there's no trusting the weather in this town and thats for sure -- Here was I, resigning myself to gentle mist and rain from now until Christmas, when all of a sudden, would ye believe it? the sun is splitting the rocks and no mistake. It's no wonder when ye see the gear that people were wear ing last Saturday raincoats and hats -- I even saw a certain Engineering/Medical friendship wearing ties in the Cellar -- sure it's enough to drive any self respecting rain away. Coimments from a visitor "please sir, why do your police allow people to park trucks down that small narrow street". Why don't they stop cars from going down there altogether.? ' W e ' , " 'say I, catching a long breath "They have to let trucks down there be cause, you see, in this country and in this town in particular there is no pro vision for delivering goods to shops on schedule and the shopkeepers without back doors claim they would loose business if the people couldn't drive past the door way !" I don't know because you can't shop from a car anymore. "In France" sez yer man. he was French, "if you stopped a truck like that it wolud be towed away, and the streets where cars cannot go, are the streets where people shop at their leisure -- they do a lot of business." "I know that,"sez I "but try telling to the powers that be and the shopkeepers, they'd tell you to mind yer own bus iness -- sure don't they know everything there is to know about business ?". N o w -- a word of warn ing and I mean warning. T h e raft Development plan is on display in the Town Clerks office and in the County Library. If you live or have a business in this village of ours, you would be well advised to go down as quickly as possible, before you know it your building may be earmarked for de molition and you won't be able to do too much about if you don't get your objec tion in now. For instance, the only building that is earmarked to survive be tween Middle Street and St. Augustine Street is the church. (Aha! the powers of the church -- always free from state interference -- lucky!) The Taibhdhearc is for the mallet and Jimmy Lydons bakery not to ment ion a certain Ministers daddy, and a well known mineral water company. Getting an outside firm of planners, like Buchanan's who have no respect for trad ition or continuity is a good trick. That way, a stroke of a pen on a map can remove old established institutions without feeling, without sentiment, and make way for parking cars -- what a crime this is! There is a man or woman in every district, to whom you can object to this imposition I would suggest you do it now -- in writing and use the Corporation trick -- register it ! T h e krak is going well all over and I hear that the new Wednes day night sessions in the Coachman are going like a bomb.
