S I N N F E I N HITS OUT AT LACK OF FACILITIES I N C L I F D E N H O U S I N G ESTATE
BY UNA SINNOTT NORTH CONNEMARA Sinn Fein has hit out at the lack of facilities in a local authority housing estate in Clifden, where some residents have been waiting for more than 18 months for the installation of street lights outside their homes. It is understood the Galway County Council has contacted the National Buildings Agency -- which is responsible for the latest batch of 24 houses to come on stream in the Tullyvoheen estate -- with regard to street lighting in the newest part of the development. The NBA intends to rectify the problem in the near future, but Sinn Fein has hit out at the delay in providing street lights for residents who have occupied homes there since March 2001. Sedn Ac Coistealbha of Sinn Fein was critical of the local authority's running of the estate, saying that on a recent visit to the area he had spoken to older residents who did not have adequate heating in their homes. According to Ac Coistealbha the estate is also in need of a playground for close to 200 children who live there. He has called on the Galway County Council to provide a proper playing area for the children on the estate.
