The exhibition, entitled Reflections will be opened on Tuesday November 5 at 6:30pm by Miriam Cronin of The Paint Box. Reflections is a collection of 21 pieces full of vibrant colour and dramatic composition which have the opposite effect on the viewer, evoking a calm and reflective mood allowing some "escapism from our everyday urban life". With a high-pressured career in the IT sector Grey says "painting is my biggest de-stressor". Originally from Templemore, Co Tipperary, Elaine moved to Galway to work in the IT industry almost nine years ago. She joined the Galway Concert Orchestra and the Galway Musical Society, where she started off helping to paint sets. Her interest in painting grew from there, and she enrolled for oil painting classes at The Paint Box. Now under the tutelage of the founder artist, Miriam Cronin, she has developed a personal painting style that is full of colour and emotion. The exhibition runs until November 27.

Newry born brothers Brendan and Oeclan Murphy are the nucleus of the 4 of Us. When they released Songs For The Tempted in 1989 they were touted as one of the most promising bauds at the time. 'Mary', the first single from the album went straight to Nol in Ireland and is still one of the most played songs on Irish radio some 13 years later. Their debut album went platinum. It was to be another four years before they were to release their second album Man Alive in 1993. "It's taken a lot of time between albums," said Brendan. "Every time we release a new album it feels like we're starting again. People have been waiting for the new album for a long time, which is due out in February of next year. We're really excited about this new album." Man Alive also went platinum, yielded the smash hit single 'She Hits Me' and was named in Q magazine's prestigious Top 50 albums of the year. In 1999 they released Classified Personal. Hit singles followed in the form of 'Change' and 'Maybe It's You', another disc of the platinum variety to adorn the walls of the respective Murphy households and numerous sell-out tours. Throughout the 4 of Us toured extensively and what their fans missed out in the time

between albums they got more than they expected for the live outings. In 2000 they produced Off The Record, a collection of their best-known songs. Some critics called it Karaoke 4 of Us. However, the album sold well as fans were hungry for alternative versions of 4 of Us hits. Their fan base never wavered. The 4 Of Us are currently putting the finishing touches to album number five which they spent most of this year recording. The new album is set for release in February. The leading single - released earlier this month - is a strong return to form. 'Sunlight' is featured in the new US hit series on HBO, The Mind Of Married Men. The song details the struggle to live in the moment and the fleeting nature of time. "It's about the beautiful Irish weather!" jokes Murphy, "Though looking out the window today perhaps it was the wrong time of the year to put it out! No, seriously, when we wrote this track we'd been listening to a lot of soul music and we were looking for a way to incorporate that. It's a metaphor for looking to the light. Looking on the bright side of life." Two songs recorded with Jon Richards at Galway Bay FM are included as B sides. They are 'Blackbird', (by The Beatles) and an

acoustic version of 'She Hits Me'. So, how does Jon Richards fit into the 4 of Us plan for world domination? "Jon Richards is Dr Evil to our Austin Powers!" quips Murphy, "Ah, no, he's a brilliant guy and he does some brilliant sessions out in that little studio. We were looking for strong Bsides and it became apparent when people started logging on to our website and asking where they could get copies of the sessions we recorded with Jon Richards. So, we put them out on the single. We're really excited about this new album. We're getting a better reaction than we have for a long time. This is the biggest sound we've ever come up with. However, the Galway show will be acoustic. It's a way of introducing the album to people." Is it strange having a family member in the band? "Yes, it is," admits Murphy, "but it would be strange not to have a family member in the band. Besides I can't get rid of him at this stage - no matter how hard I try!" Murphy describes the new sound as "widescreen" and "in full cinemascope". So, how is this album different to the others? "We've broadened our sound," he says. "We've decided to paint on a bigger canvas."
