FISHING GALA ON CORRIB
T h e B r a i t h r e a c h t na Coiribe Annual Mixed Grill Competition took place on Lough C o m b last Sunday week. In somewhat windy conditions the anglers left Steamers Quay at 10.00 a.m. to do battle with both Perch, Pike and Trout in an effort to find winners for the beautiful trophies and crystal prizes which were awarded that evening at a prize giving dinner in the Sacre Coeur Hotel. At the dinner Chairman of Braithreacht na Coiribe Mr. Martin Beany on behalf of the Brotherhood, welcomed the guests and also welcomed the new Fishery Bill now going through the Dail. He also thanked Mr. Dan Goldrick and the Inland Fisheries Trust for their great work in developing the lower Corrib. The Mayor of Galway, Alderman John Francis King in reply thanked the Braithreacht na Coiribe for inviting his wife and himself and went on to speak on the many changes that have taken place on and around the Corrib over the years. The Secretary Mr. R o b b y Hill prior to announcing the prize winners thanked the sponsors for all their support in making the Competition a success. Total entry was 47 boats with 124 rods who landed a total of 71 fish weighing 127'A lbs. made u p o 57 Pike of 102*4 lbs., 2 Perch of 1 Yi lbs. and 12 Trout weighing 23 lbs. PRIZEWINNERS
