Well, thats it then, isn't it? The Races are over foi another year and we're facing into the Autumn, and the tourist season will be over in a few weeks and it seems like it only began the o t h e r d a y . Needles to mention, the pundits were right and it was another record races, with a record cashflwo of something in excess of three million quid. Now who says that there is a depression, or a shortage of cash in this poor land of ours? T h r e e million greenbacks! Just think of it. A pound for every man, woman and child in the country, why, I bet it coult feed and cloth all the unfortunate poor people in the country for a whole year, but then, who wants to feed the poor when they could be having a good time at the races, we'll worry about them tomorrow or some other day. My h e a r t i e s t congratulations to the dear old Corpo. for all the extra troops that they put on the streets gathering up the litter, even though they didn't kill themselves from overwork, they sure as anything made a tremedous difference to the state of the place, and there was not any reason to be really ashamed of the condition of the streets as there has been in the past. Salthill even holds out for a good part of the night now before becoming inundated under a mountain of chip bags. I see that the old show biz phrase, "There's a sucker born every minute', is still very appropriate in this town of ours. They queue up at the door of a closed up shop with twenty pound notes in their hands, waiting for their chance to get in and buy an anonymous box which may or may not have anything of value in it. These guys arrive in here from England, with a truck load of stuff that comes from God knows where, park their XJS Jaguar on the double yellow lines with impunity -- it's English registered - open up with a smart line in patter, and without even trying the joint is jumping with folks looking for 'Bargains' waving their money in the air. Of course, it's all legal, or so it seems, but Fm sure that there are no real bargains, and one thing ye can bet yeer Bippies on is that, when anything goes wrong with anything that ye buy from these guys, they will be long, long gone and ye can whistle a jig for any form of guarantee or redress for yeer hard earned money. Yeer a right crowd of sheep all right to be letting yeerselves be sweet talked into these so called bargains by people ye don't know and will probably never see again. Cop yeerselves on before it's too late, if it isn't already. Ye can buy transistor Radios and such from any amount

Who is going to fix one of these fly by night appliances after they've busted. Imagine y e e r s e l v e s bringing a transistor that ye've bought from one of these guys in to O'Connors or Raftejy's or some such for repairs, all ye can expect is t o be courteously told where to put it and ye will have nobody but yeerselves to blame. For God's sake think ahead, support the local man, he supports ye in more ways than ye can imagine, with employment, Rates, and if that isn't enough, well at least ye know him, and the divil ye know is better than the divil ye don't know. God love ye for another week Dick Byrne.
