ABORTION.

Abortion is the ultimate exploitation of a woman and if the 14 year old alleged rape victim in Dublin went ahead with an an abortion, she would be compounding the assault on her.
That is the opinion of " M a r y " , one of three volunteers with W o m e n Hurt By Abortion, the Galway support group for women w h o have ter minated their pregnancies. She was commenting on the controversial case of the Dublin schoolgirl w h o was banned earlier this week by the State from seeking an abortion abroad. " A b o r t i o n is an act of violence against a woman. If this girl were to have an abortion, it would only compound the assault of rape. " I t is difficult enough to recover from the trauma of rape, but a rape and an abortion would be an ex treme a s s a u l t . " "Abortion is destructive and particularly so for a girl in her formative years, insists M a r y . " T h e situation is a mat ter of life and death. It is a matter of death for the baby if the abortion goes ahead. " A lot of people are very agitated about the case.

The new Minister for Education SEAMUS BRENNAN enjoyed visiting his old school "The Bish" (see report page 10) last Monday. He also found time to call on his first teacher the legendary Bean Ui Dhuigneain who is now retired and living at Fr. Griffin Road. Bean Ui Dhuigneain found his photograph in Kitty O 'Riordan's ' 'Bhi Me i Scoil Fhursa',' the renowned Irish national school at Nile Lodge. The Minister thoroughly enjoyed his visit. Especially when Bean Ui Dhuigneain reminded him that on his first day at school he was so nervous that she let him ring the school bell for courage.
