FURNISHING IN WOOL
The newest theme is cool, cream and natural with names like Marrakesh and Moresque, and carpets made from natural undyed wools. You can match them up in furnishings, as well as fine yarn wail coverings which reflect the same look, but if you have a family who tread in with muddy boots you may prefer something more colourful. There is plenty of colour about but it's skilfully controlled. Garden colours such as green and yellow - which are also incidentally the fashion colours of the moment - bring a touch of summer into the home, and you can 'team up' by using a long pile carpet in green, and spraying cane and wicker chairs in green and yellow to tone. Red is the unusual choice for a bedroom, which is dominated by an enormous four poster bed hung with sheer red wool valances. There is a two tone long pile red carpet to cover not only thefloorsbut one of the walls as well: posters decorate other walls and scarlet Italian free-standing units replace bedside cabinets. If the thought of a scarlet lady bedroom is too much for you, the idea could be copied in another colour. CARPET TILES Carpet tiles are not new, although housewives are really only just beginning to appreciate quite how practical they are: the latest, however, are in long pile wool/and nylon in an 80/20 proportion. When laid, they have the appearance of an ordinary carpet, but you can of course change the colour scheme round if you choose two colours and you always pick them up and relay them if you move home or change your rooms around. A new colour scheme with carpet tiles, chosen for a bathroom, is plum and apricot with cream. The bath is plum and the tiles are apricot and cream. The tiles can easily be cut to shape, and of course, the PVC backing won't rot if they get wet. REMNANTS Carpet pieces are seldom wasted. You can keep them safely to cut in when your carpet gets worn; you can turn them into useful runners, or an even more novel use was shown recently with carpet remnants skilfully cut into shapes made into pictures and framed in a new aluminium do-it-yourself system.
Contrasts in texture make this bedroom interesting. First, the shaggy pure new wool carpet contrasting with the printed wool bedcovers and cushion and the simple modern chair. The colour scheme is cream, grey and white.

SHAGGY PILES NEW COLOURS-AND PATTERNS As furniture becomes ever lower, the focus in modern furnishings is definitely on the floor! In fact, in many cases, it has actually reachedfloorlevel in the form of blocks of foam or jumbo filled feather cushions for seating purposes. All this means thatfloorsand flooring have to be more exciting than ever before. And ideal to meet this challenge are the new shaggy wool pile carpets: they have been around for some time, but are only now beginning to 'catch on' in a big way.
