HEALTH BOARD PROSECUTE
The Western Health Board is to prosecute the County Galway Nursing home which was the sub ject of an investigation on March 8th. Glenlara Nursing Home, Glenamaddy was in vestigated by Western Health Board officials as part of a routine check on nursing homes. A spokesman for the Western Health Board said on Tuesday ' 'On foot of an investigation, a number of prosecutions are being served on the owners of Glenlara Nursing home."

NO MOVE YET ON SAFETY BARRIER IMPASSE
The Planning Appeals Board is expected to decide within the next month if the Harbour Board needs planning per mission to build safety barriers at Long Walk. If permission is needed, the board will have to app ly to the Corporation. And, according to Harbour Board Chairman Padraic McCormack, this could mean several months before the barriers are finally erected. The Harbour Board began work on the safety barriers on the 16th of March. This followed a man's death after his car went into the river in the area. But on March 19th work was stopped because the Corporation said the Har bour Board needed plann ing permission. Padraic McCormack argues planning permis sion is not needed because the wall is under 3 feet and does not adjoin a public road. "Following the tragedy, pressure was put on us to build a barrier. It was rais ed at various Corporation meetings, and nobody mentioned anything about planning permis sion,"claims Deputy McCormack. "Under the relevant planning act, we believed this wall was exempt from needing permission and went ahead. After we started it, some residents went to the Corporation, and this led to a Stopping Order from their Planning Office. We had to conform to this." The Board applied to the Planning Appeals Board in Dublin to decide if it was exempt. No further building can take place un til its verdict is given. However Padraic McCor mack is hopeful it will come within the month. Meanwhile County and City Manager, Seamus Keating main tans the Har bour Board must apply to the Corporation for plann ing permission. "But it is entited to send its case to the Appeals Board. I have not heard what the Board is doing, but if planning permission is sought we will deal with the matter as quickly as possible." Judy Murphy
