Having turned away many fans at gigs in Galway and Mayo Smokie have now been booked to play at the Presentation College, Headfbrd Gymnasium, on Tuesday, April 5th. This is a very spacious purpose built venue and should be able to cater adequately for those who were disap pointed last tune. The present tour is being sponsored by Radio 2. Tickets will be available in advance f r o m Star Records.

There is quite a lot happening in music circles around Galway over the next few weeks. I n fact this city usually experiences either a feast or a famine, the menu far the coming weeks is both varied and interesting. featured on the Soundtrack of the Courier which stars Gabriel Byrne. The band have recorded an album with* producer Tommy Erdelyi, ex Ramones. Something Happens are hot tips for the top so catch them on Sunday 27th.

Tonight at Flannery's Hotel Blue Curaquo, a five piece based here in Galway will be belting out Funk/ T u r i n American sounds. They are full of confidence in their music and reckon they have the best percussion ever m bit Galway Blue Curaquo axe M a r t y T h o r n t a n (guitar), Mike Shaughnessy (keyboards / per cussion), Billy Geraghry (drums), Aidan Togher (bass) and Joanne on lead vocals.

The Galway Arts Festival are holding a series of Festival gigs in Dublin, London and Edinburgh, during the coming weeks to help defray the running costs of our 11th Festival. This Friday night The Stunning; The Saaadoctors and the Sleaze Sisters play a late night concert with full bar at the [erne Ballroom. The Sawdoctors will be making a double debut on the 25th as its their live debut in Dublin and also they make their T V . debut in On the Town presented bv Lee Dunne.

The L a o s M a t e on Radio One will present a two part documentary on the life and music of the legendary travelling piper Johnny Doran. He played his music at fairs, race meetings and football matches. He was a keen supporter of the Castlegar h u r l i n g team. The programmes will be presented by J a c k i e Small from Ballinfovie Also included is an interview with Paddy Philbin from S nantalia Who Caught Irish d a n r i n g to generations of Galweg ians. The programmes will be broadcast on March 28th and April 4th, at 8 p.m.

She flies out for her American tour on May 7th and returns an May 25th. One of her children is for First Communion prior to her departure, while another is for Confirma tion on her return. She will also make her film debut with Peter O T o o l e in High Spirits, which will be released in the U.S. in July and will be released here in October.

Monday Night is a big Jamming Session at the Castle, Salthill. Frankie Coulahan, Paul Vignoles, Tony Maher, Tammy Moran and Paul Grealish. will be having the crack every Monday night until further notice.

We need' sleep. The human body will begin to experience all sorts of odd effects after
