That Was the Week That Was!

numbers from it. The next time she comes to Galway she will have to play for a week as there were so many disappointed people who were unable to see her per form this time around. Guest act Major to Minor were very entertaining and made quite a few new fans on the night. They played Jazz, Blues, Country and original numbers. They are very versatile musicians and J hope they return to Galway again. The highlight of their show was THE HERPES SONG, enough said! Major to Minor are Maria Walsh, Carole Nelson and Isabel Ni Chuircain. The Hennigans Blues Band proved to be one of the best live and lively bands on the scene at the moment. If you want to dance then these are the boys with the rhythm. All kinds of individuals were seen rally ripping up the floor at the Festival Club. Richard from the HiFi Dept. in O'Connor TV. Well, he must have legs like Steve Cram at the rate he was bopping. Sean McDonagh from the Quays was doing a lot of fancy footwork and I even spot ted Jimmy Brick on the fr inges of the dance floor, no sign of any other politicians though. What a shame that the Burrenmount is not be ing used like this on a more regular basis and what a pity we can't have the HBB band more often.

wits about them. I mean make a mistake on the air and half the country is laughing at you. Mark Cagney himself was as I ex pected except for the baggy tartan trousers. This is no egotistical D.J., he is just a really nice guy who really enjoys doing his job. You get the feeling that he would do it even if he wasn't get ting paid for it. Its no wonder he plays the best music on Radio 2. He owns 5,000 albums and to think my mother thinks that I am bad and 1 have only one tenth of his collection Padraig O'Flynn who is based in the Galway Studio showed me how the show behind the show works. Its like sitting at the controls of an aircraft and I believe that the studio will be even more up to date in the near future. It was an enjoyable experience and thanks to Cathal O'Doherty, Willie O'Reilly, Padraig O'Flynn and Mark Cagney for ar ranging it.

Put a Knot in Exams! You Can't Stop Once You Start... Health Warning
To highligh the growing exam problem in Irish society, V20, near the even of the Leaving Cert, results, interviewed several candidates, the troops in the trenches of the bitter war of examinations. U20: Your name is John X? John X: Yes. U20: Do you do exams? (nod from John X : ) Why? John X: Well, er. I don't really know. Just all my friends were doing exams, and I felt that, if I wanted to be one of them, I had to do exams as well -- I didn't want to be the one they'd call 'chicken' or 'baby'. So I did some. At first it was easy, just the odd exam; nothing really mattered when I was doing exams. I thought I'd easily be able to give them up. But then one of my friend's -- some friend! -- told me about these state exams I tried them. They were much better than anylhing I had ever tried before. But I ended up doing one almost every day during June. I couldn't help mysielf. U20: What can you do now? John X : I really don't know. I'll have to go to University, to do more exams; I need them. There's a large supply here in (jalway. U20: Thank you. Mary Y . , how long have you been

doing exams for? Mary Y; Oh, for as long as I can remember. My father, who was a teacher, would be correcting exams, and my family had all been doing quite a few exams. U20: So it was natural for you to follow? Mary Y : Yes, yes. 1 could hardly help myself. When I first started, they used to have a very bad effect on me; but I started studying, and since then, I've always had really good exam experiences. Occasionally there's some jerk who tries to take advantage of you during your exam, but you can a l w a v s handle them.

U20: And what about the results? Mary Y : I can't wait -- they'll mean a whole new range of exams. U20: Thank you. Pat Z . , you stopped doing exams. How? Pat Z: It was just hard work. I did quite a few exams, then 1 seemed to come out the other side. I didn't need to do any more. It was like being freed from prison. I haven't done an exam since. ...Two sides of the story. The exam problem exists. We cannot ignore it. Peter Arnold
