Galway to host revolutionary new digital media kiosks
Galway is set to become the epicentre of a revolution in digital media, with a local company set to launch a new model of film rental. PortoMedia, based in Mervue Business Park, plans to roll out a network of rental kiosks which will offer customers a digital alternative to DVD rentals. Customers will be provided with a memory card which can be used to download DVD-quality film from the kiosk, and then brought home and viewed on TV, computer, or other digital media players. The rental model bypasses problems associated with downloading films from the internet by storing the digital media locally, which will allow a full featurelength film to be downloaded in a matter of seconds. The downloaded files will expire and cease to function after a pre-determined rental period, meaning customers will not have to worry about late fees.
